MEATY QUESTIONS:
What made you decide to seek out wardrobe therapy/personal shopping/styling services?:
I knew that i had been wanting to find more of what MY style was and that I wanted to have more of a sense of what was fashionable but not trendy – and knew that I needed Help! My friend, Cindy Cheung, told me about Cindy Gordon and said that she was wonderful. So, i checked out her blog and the first thing that I noticed was that she did not label herself a “stylist” which for some reason intimidates me. She called herself a wardrobe therapist. PERFECT! I needed someone who was going to be able to tell me to throw a piece of clothing out and then be gentle with me as i freaked out!
What’s the most surprising thing you learned from the wardrobe therapy/personal shopping/styling experience?:
That I did not have to spend thousands of dollars on a new wardrobe! Cindy helped to mine the gold that was in my wardrobe (I had NO IDEA that scarves were so valuable!). She helped me to put things together that i would have NEVER thought of – thus essentially giving me an entirely new wardrobe for the cost of a consultation!
How useful did you find the consultation? Or what’s the most useful piece of advice you learned from the consultation?:
I learned so many many things… how to use scarves, belts, accessories in general. I learned that i could take more risks in my clothing combinations. And she told me that i had “a good eye”. That was so very validating. Sometimes you just need someone to tell you that you’re not totally walking in the wrong direction. Here is my favorite thing that Cindy said (i’m going to paraphrase): You can tell a lot about how people are feeling about themselves by the way they dress. It’s like nutrition: You are what you eat. So take time for yourself to take care of how you dress. Find your inner voice which will tell you what your style is. YOU CAN PUSH YOUR OWN ENVELOPE.
Anything else you want my potential clients to know?:
My husband is sort-of a guy’s guy – and I love him for that but he’s not one to really comment/notice on what I’m wearing and certainly wouldn’t be able to articulate the changes I had incorporated as a result of working with Cindy. HOWEVER, one day, I was wearing an outfit that Cindy put together for me. It wasn’t anything crazy – just a pair of skinny jeans with a gray button-down shirt and my knee length boots. And let me just say that he was unable to keep his hands off… whatever magic that was worked for me AND my husband. THAT is getting your money’s worth!!
